Product guide

Our custom-made towels can be categorized into a variety of types, depending on the way in which they are personalized (that is, the way in which they are dyed). When producing a personalized towel, there are a number of factors to consider. These include the number of colors required for the design, the finish of the towel and the techniques best suited to your design. We will advise on the method we consider to be the best option for your requirements.

BOUSEN towel

This technique is based on the ancient Japanese art of Yuzen dyeing. It will give your towel a deluxe, deeply colored finish. Besides having great impact potential, this technique is also ideal because it does not alter the original softness or texture of the towel.
Furthermore, this method of printing is far more durable than others, such as dye and pigment printing, in which colors will not be as long-lasting.
The design can be best expressed by dyeing around it and leaving the lettering or illustration white for maximum impact, rather than dyeing exactly as it is. As standard, we offer up to 30 colors for you to choose from. (We will also happily accept orders for special colors, at an additional charge.)

BOUSEN

BOSEN towels are manufactured one at a time by our specialists.
The fabric is laid out over a workbench for starching, and then a stencil with the design is placed on top. A spatula is used to apply a resist paste over the areas of the towel that are to be left undyed.
This is a process that requires great skill, and one on which the entire success of the end result relies.
Backed by our many years of experience with resist dyeing, we are always working towards further perfecting our technique.

The finish specific to the pile fabric and the design being symmetric to both sides of the towel are characteristic of this printing method.

Dye-printed towels

A process capable of handling many colors, this is the ideal method for printing colorful patterns and complex designs. The dyes are absorbed right through to the depths of the pile, making this method perfect for dark or strong colors. Dye-printed towels are also practical as the uncrushed pile fabric make them thoroughly absorbent.

Designs can be printed across the entire surface area of the towel. There are however minor limitations. Please contact us for further details.

In order that the design is faithfully reproduced, it is printed onto a surface in which the pile is firstly cropped.

NASEN towel

This is a centuries-old method used for textile dyeing. Since ancient times, personalized towels printed in this way have been commonly used by hot spring inns across Japan. When the towels are dry, the designs appear to lack clarity; however the imagery becomes instantly clear when the towels are wet. The logo and design are printed only onto the latitudinal threads, running across the width of the towel, (that is, the weft), giving the finished product greater durability. Even in the wash, the design will not fade. These towels have a practical aspect, also, as they will maintain their softness and texture.

The background will remain white, while the design can be printed in a choice of 4 colors: red, navy blue, reddish-brown and orange.

As only the latitudinal threads of the woven towel are dyed, the design will appear less defined when the towel is dry. But when the towel is wet, the design becomes clearly visible.

Pigment-printed towels

This method is most ideal for designs requiring great clarity. Pigment-printed towels allow greater freedom of expression.
Pigment printing is the method most recommended for complex logos, patterns or character illustrations. Up to 7 colors can be used to create towels with highly colorful patterns or elaborate designs.
